Several Cabinet Secretaries have made fresh appointments and reappointments to critical state agencies, boards, and councils, strengthening leadership across key sectors including firearms regulation, education, tourism, wildlife, entrepreneurship, finance, and transport.

The appointments, gazetted on February 6, 2026, aim to enhance governance and oversight within these institutions.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen re-appointed Yakub Rashid Abdullahi as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Firearms Licensing Board under the Firearms Act.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 (2) of the Firearms Act (Cap 114), Laws of Kenya, the Cabinet Secretary responsible for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration re-appoints Yakub Rashid Abdullahi to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Firearms Licensing Board,” the notice reads. Abdullahi’s term will run for three years.

Ibrahim Mugetha Ndung’u was also named as a member of the board, further strengthening leadership in firearm regulation and licensing.

In the financial sector, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi re-appointed Moess Mirr as Chairperson and Rachel Putani Leyian as Member of the Trustees of the Kenya National Entrepreneurs Savings Trust (KNEST).

He also named Jeniffer Cirindi Njiru as Chairperson of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM), along with six members: Fidel Muema Peter, Kanini Purity, Josphat Tingos Kiprotich Ngeny, Priscilla Ndindi Musyoka, Kennedy Awino Ariembi, and Bernard Muya Mukundi.

Education institutions also saw leadership updates. Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba appointed David Wamatsi Omusotsi as Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Biosafety Authority and Hellen Sambili as a member of the Commission for University Education.

The notice further appoints Joyce Chepkirui Sigey to the Council of Kabarnet University College for a three-year term starting February 6, 2026. “The appointment of Millicent Too Chemutai is revoked,” the notice adds.

Tourism and wildlife agencies received new leadership as well. Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano appointed Wuapari Cicilia Saayioi and Tabitha Murigi to the Kenya Utalii College Council, and Anne Nyawira Ngugi to the Board of Directors of the Wildlife Research and Training Institute.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 53(1)(f) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, I appoint Anne Nyawira Ngugi to be a member of the board for a period of three years,” the notice states.

Other notable appointments include Benson Mwaniki Njeru to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and George Karanja as Chairperson of the Morendat Institute of Oil. These moves are part of a broader effort by the government to reinforce leadership and oversight across vital state agencies.
